In our previous communication, we acknowledged that we are receiving new information each day regarding the coronavirus. The American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontics has recommended that all dentists and orthodontists nationwide postpone elective dental procedures, at this time.
Although we have been diligently following the updates from the CDC, the Kansas Department of Health and other experts, these are the first recommendations that we have seen from our professional associations. In an effort to do what is best for our patients, our team, and the greater community, as advised by the ADA, AAO and the White House Coronavirus Task Force Member, Dr. Deborah L. Birx, we will be suspending non-essential or non-urgent orthodontic care as of today.
The situation surrounding this virus is extremely fluid, and we will re-evaluate as circumstances change, however, we hope to begin seeing patients again on April 1, 2020. We will be prioritizing removal appointments as we re-schedule because we understand how disappointing this must be. For patients in active treatment, it is important to understand that your treatment will not be comprised by moving appointments back. We will be reaching out to each patient currently scheduled during this time period, to make new appointments.
Also, our office will be open for special care appointments if you are experiencing pain or discomfort. Please be advised, when you come to those appointments, we will be taking additional measures and protocols, as directed by the CDC and other agencies, and we will be working diligently to stay on top of any updates that are made in regard to infection control procedures.
