Plaque build-up around the brackets and along the gum line can cause white spots to develop on the teeth of patients in braces. Unfortunately, these spots are permanent. Good oral hygiene is critical during treatment. If plaque collects around the braces for extend periods of time, decalcification (white marks) occurs.
How to Prevent White Spots:
1) Brush your teeth especially at bedtime. Check after brushing to make sure the plaque is removed.
2) Consider an electric toothbrush.
3) Floss regularly to remove plaque and debris between teeth.
4) Use a flouride rinse.
5) Reduce intake of highly acidic and sugary foods and drinks.
